I met Abelino in the town of Pisac, where he had been sent by his family to collect coins from the tourists. With the help of a Quechua taxi driver we were able to communicate. We shared a bit of our life stories. I have since visited Abelino in his hometown of T’oqra, high in the Andean mountains. It took several attempts to find Abelino in 2005, and when we did finally meet in his home, he shared that “Today is my birthday.”
